Councillor Liam Mackle welcomes the start of work to install pedestrian islands on the Kiln Road.

Sinn Féin Councillor, Liam Mackle, has welcomed the start of work that will see pedestrian islands installed on the Kiln Road.

He said:

"This is something that we have been pressing Road Service for since the new traffic light system was installed. This is a main arterial route for drivers but also an extremely popular walking route.

"The installation of the pedestrian islands will go a long way to enhancing road safety particularly on this busy stretch of road which experiences high levels of traffic at peak times - this also includes a huge volumes of lorries.

"Whilst we do welcome the commencement of this work we continue to be concerned with the speed of lorries along both the Kiln Road and the Silverwood Road. We have met with most of the local lorry companies as well as the PSNI and would urge all road users and pedestrians to continue reporting dangerous driving using the non-emergency 101 number. We would also urge drivers to desist from using Kiln Lane as a shortcut.
