O'Dowd Responds to Kelly's Criticism

Sinn Fein MLA John O' Dowd has responded to SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly's criticism of Sinn Féin producing an alternative budget to the Fine Gael led government's budget in the South.

Mr O'Dowd said:

"Producing an alternative budget is what responsible opposition parties do, Sinn Féin is now the main opposition party in Dáil.

"The SDLP voted against every budget the Executive produced over this last 10 years including Budgets which seen increase spending in health. Not once did the SDLP produce an alternative budget nor put an alternative on the floor of the Assembly.

"The SDLP should know why no Executive budget was tabled this year, the Assembly collapsed over allegations of corruption surrounding the RHI scheme and the failure of the DUP and others to sign up to a rights based society.

"If the SDLP are prepared to go back into the Executive in the absence of these matters being resolved then Dolores Kelly should say so and stop misleading the public over budgetary matters in which she and her party have shown no interest in the past."
