O' Dowd calls on PSNI to comply with Glenanne judgement

Published: 8 November, 2017

Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd said there can be no further delays into an effective and independent investigation into collusion between the British state and the loyalist Glenanne death squad.

Mr O'Dowd said:

"The High Court judgement, is a significant day for the families of those who lost loved ones to the now infamous Glennane Gang. This gang killed dozens of local people with apparent immunity and is widely believed to have been made up of serving RUC officers and British Army personnel.

"The court has ruled that the PSNI should now facilitate an effective and independent investigation promised to all these families.

"The PSNI should act in appropriate and compassionate manner to families following the decision by Justice Treacy. The continued use of delaying tactics by appealing decisions which they know in reality are the correct decisions is only adding to the pain and hurt felt by these families in some instances for over 40 years.

"The delaying tactics and lack of compassion shown by the PSNI are undermining the confidence levels in the PSNI and new policing dispensation in the North.

Concluding Mr O'Dowd said;

"The PSNI should now comply with the judgement and provide the necessary resources and facilitate an effective and independent investigation in to the Glennane death squad so that the families of their victims can get access to truth and justice."
