Sinn Féin Councillor Paul Duffy calls for Zebra Crossing

Published: 22 November, 2017

During a recent meeting with Roads Services Sinn Féin Councillor, Paul Duffy, requested the installation of a zebra crossing at the junction of Obins Street and Park Road where traffic from the town also converges.

He said:

"There has been a number of accidents, many serious, involving pedestrians at this junction.

"Drivers have expressed concern that some pedestrians do not look around as they approach the junction particularly young people on mobile devices.

"Pedestrians, on the other hand, have claimed drivers do not slow down when approaching the blind bend.

"I believe a zebra crossing would put the onus on drivers to stop. This would be in the interest of drivers and pedestrians alike.

"I am hopeful that an assessment of this junction will be carried out out soon."
