Speaking in the New Year he said:

"As we go into a new year with different goals and ambitions we must spare a thought for our local community and the ever increasing drugs problem. Sadly a growing amount of people believe drugs are socially acceptable. They are not.

"Our entire community has a role to play in educating our friends, neighbours and young people of the dangers of drugs.

"Education and awareness in partnership with government agencies, local sports clubs and the PSNI can play a significant role in deterring the use of drugs in our community.

"As we enter a new year I want to see drug misuse tackled and addressed to ensure a safer community for all."
